Well, we finally made it out of Haymarket about 5:30 on Monday evening. We had the RV de-winterized and packed by the weekend and everyone was almost going crazy with excitement and anticipation. We knew that we were due in Myrtle Beach at some point on Wednesday, but in between...who knows! We hoped to meet up with friends at some point, but that was the extent of our planning.
Our trip so far has gone something like this...
Monday
5:30p.m. -- pull out of Westmarket heading South to some unknown destination for the evening.
5:32p.m. -- Brock has to go to the bathroom
5:34p.m. -- Riley has to go to the bathroom
5:55p.m. -- Slowly, as if controlled by an evil force, a smell begins to take over the entire RV. At first Dan glances at Brock (obvious culprit), Michelle looks at Cooper (also obvious culprit), Riley looks at Dan and so it goes for the next 25 minutes until someone says, "Damn it stinks in here!" Well sure enough, since the RV had been winterized we forgot to treat the septic system. For the next hour we basically held our heads out the door until finally we had to stop for dinner and fresh air.
6:30p.m. -- We finish dinner at Five Guys (this one should have been called Cinco Amigos) and get several hours down the road before we realize we forgot (or so we thought) the credit card. First stop = first tragedy. Oh well, we'll deal with it later.
7:00p.m. -- The smell is so awful we pull into a truck stop hoping to find SOME product that will ease our pain. We find some kind of "live" powder that claims to do the trick and VOILA! the camper smells like new again (thank God).
11:00p.m. -- After seven or eight rounds of Sims American Idol (one person sings and the rest of us have to pick which judge we are going to be) we pull into a Circle J stop somewhere in North Carolina. We are totally exhausted but also realize that if we want heat that night (it's freezing) then we are going to need to get gas (generator runs off of gas) and propane (heat runs off of propane). Having never done the propane thing, I figure a crowded truck stop in the middle of the night might just create the horrifically embarassing situation which I had not yet endured this day...needless to say the LADIES working at the gas station had a good laugh at my moronic questions and sheer fascination at their propane prowess. Though they did not appreciate my PERFECT Hank (King of the Hill) impressions, "Bobby, it's time I teach you a thing or two about propane."
12:00a.m. -- Cooper wakes up. Nothing to do but party with the young buck so Michelle and I pop a couple of beers and play with him for an hour.
Tuesday
Woke up early, had a quick breakfast at some place called Bojangles which is apparently a combination of southern food and soul food for old people. Anyway, it worked and we got back on the road. We ended up in Wilmington, NC and just spent the day crawling all over the U.S.S. North Carolina (amazing battleship) and are just getting ready for grilled steak. cigars, Coronas and smores tonight. More later!
Dan and Mich. I'm loving to read your stories. So funny your trip!!! Have a nice day
